The overwhelming majority (>96%) of background checks return results within one day.
A small percentage can take up to 5 business days. In very rare instances the process can take up to 21 business days.
To maintain compliance with FCRA Sec. 613(a)(2), all records with incidents are re-verified by a trained professional researcher, which involves accessing court information from where the record(s) originated to ensure the search returns the most accurate data.
Accessing information directly from courts involves human intervention and is not automated or instantaneous. This is the primary reason for a background check to remain “In Progress” for several days.
